Thyroid Artery Embolisation (TAE) is a minimally invasive interventional radiology procedure designed to treat enlarged thyroid glands (goitre) and symptomatic thyroid conditions — without any surgical incision, without a scar, and without removing the thyroid gland.
Dr. Pradyumna Reddy, Hyderabad's Scarless Thyroid Doctor, accesses the thyroid artery through a tiny puncture at the wrist or groin — no cut on the neck whatsoever. A microcatheter is guided to the thyroid's blood supply under advanced X-ray imaging (fluoroscopy), and tiny embolic particles are delivered to reduce blood flow to the abnormal or enlarged thyroid tissue.
Deprived of its blood supply, the thyroid gland gradually shrinks over weeks to months, relieving compressive symptoms and reducing neck swelling.
TAE Helps Patients With:
- Large goitres causing pressure symptoms
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing discomfort
- Preference to avoid thyroid surgery
- Recurrent goitre after previous treatment
Key Highlights
- No surgical incision on neck
- No visible scar
- Hospital stay usually < 24 hours
- Natural thyroid shrinkage over 3–6 months
